Our Story

Why we started Acton Academy Lake Charles…

After having our two daughters, Garrett and I began to realize that the education we dreamed about for them did not exist in our community. As an educator, I had experienced firsthand the pressure that was being put on families and staff in the traditional school system. I could not bear to picture our two girls sitting in a classroom being lectured to for seven hours, coming home to work on homework each night and returning to school to take test after test. The world is changing, and schools are not keeping up.

WHAT DID WE WANT FOR OUR CHILDREN?

A friend who knew the desires of our hearts for our children, approached me to read the book Courage to Grow. After relating to so much of Laura Sandefer’s story, I knew I had to visit the school that the book was about and meet the individuals who worked tirelessly to provide this type of learning environment for their two sons and others.

The atmosphere of the Acton Academy in Austin exceeded any and every expectation I had. It was a place of love, respect, competition, accountability, teamwork, honesty and so much more! I had to share this with our community.

THE ANSWER HAD FINALLY ARRIVED

A place where passions, desires and differences are valued and explored. A place where adults do not impose their ideas or agendas but support and guide. A place where children are encouraged to be children through play, discovery and travel. A place where it is not only acceptable to fail but encouraged… in order to learn. A place where real world problem solving meets foundational core skills. We knew the Acton Academy model would inspire and support childrens’ futures in becoming the next world-renowned artist, creative entrepreneur, or maybe even a scientific genius.

We are so excited to launch Acton Academy Lake Charles by following in the footsteps of so many like-minded families wanting something extraordinary for the children in their community.

We’d love for you to join us! Let’s turn learning upside down!
